Blessing in disguise

Yesterday I took Anika to a little concert in the park. Which was a whirlwind. When I got to my car I realized there was a nail in my tire. I began to think of the rearranging I was going to have to make in my afternoon to take care of my tire. I decided to go ahead and do it after nap time.

My mom, as wonderful as she is, came over to be with the girls while I went out and took care of the tire. I went up to Discount tire thinking they would do it for free, and I could run errands while I wait. However, when I got there they told me they couldn't repair it because the nail was too close to the edge. I went to the place we bought our tires from and thought about all the appointments I could make while sitting and waiting.

When I arrived I was told that my tire would be fixed for free and right next door I saw a big sign that said foot reflexology and massage $25.

I immediately put anxiety about errands and scheduling appointments aside and enjoyed a wonderful 1 hour foot, head, shoulder massage for $25 while waiting for a free service on my tire! yay!
Weekdays have been sunny and weekends have been rainy lately. To beat the rainy day blues last week Aiana and her friends went to the movies together. Will and Caylin also went to the movies together.

After the movies Caylin had her first burger from McDonalds (it was bound to happen sooner or later).

Anika and I stayed home and had a nice suprise visit by grandpa. That lit up Anika's day.

With all these "indoor" days I've decided to play around with potty training. I really don't have a plan, I've just been letting Anika wear undies. She's been undressing herself every morning. Will goes in to get her and finds her totally naked. So obviously she's got interest in taking her diaper off. She also loves to sit on the toilet, however has only actually gone maybe twice. I think this weekend we will go and pick out some special undies and potty prizes. We'll see how it goes!

Tired mama...

Last night was yet another long night with Caylin. There is another cold circulating between the girls, and when Caylin is hit she is hit hard and just can't sleep. So about every two hours she wakes crying and needing tissues. She wakes up in the morning surrounded by a white cloud of tissues. All night I lye in bed thinking "why, why, why" (because since birth, Caylin has had trouble sleeping). And especially this Fall season, we have been hit hard with colds! We like to get out and about, so I know the girls pick up germs all over the place. My hope is that they are just building immunities!

I hope tonight is a better night. My poor girl looks like Rudolf.

Sometimes I wonder how long I will continue to have long sleepless nights with Caylin? Will she be in college calling me in the middle of the night to tell me she can't sleep? Will it ever end??

Mornings after no sleep are always painful too. We have been home all day and it's been raining tissues. Anika doesn't complain too much when she is sick, however she is going through a typical season of "2's" and is testing out her power with the word "NO!", which in itself is painful.

We did go outside for a bit of fresh air and to enjoy the beginnings of Spring! It's looking so beautiful outside, I love all the green!

Now to enjoy the rest of nap time, which is a beautiful time....

I could really do without allergies!

I found out tonight that Anika is highly allergic to salmon :( She had a little bite of mine and within 2 minutes began complaining and pulling at her tongue. Her bottom lip was swelling, around her mouth was red, and a welt was forming on her tongue! I immediately gave her some benadryl and wiped her face and hands. Within another few minutes she quit complaining and I called the doctor to figure out what to do next. Urgent care was booked, which meant ER was our next option. ER is minimum $300 to be seen. So based on the fact that the swelling was going down, and she wasn't wheezing or drooling, I decided to stay home. She was playing and talking, acting normal. Within about a 1/2 hour the welt on her tongue was gone, and within the next hours she was looking back to normal. She is still itching around her neck, but looks much better.

So now I'm left a little shaken up and also bummed that there is another food on her list of food allergies, fish. She is due to be seen for a full allergy test. It is scary to think of Anika having allergies that could potentially be fatal. Ugg, I'm off to put her to bed and then relax. Hope tonight is uneventful.

Hanging out

That's kind of what we've been doing lately. This picture just makes me laugh. Something about Anika's stance and outfit, looks 70's to me. The girls love hanging out at mimi's, and snacking at mimi's in particular is one of their favorite things to do...along with playing in nana's jewlery.
